Waste Pickers is made from discarded seat belts and uses them in a smart and meaningful way. Assorted colors, texture and length are received and the designer then makes layers according to the desired look and aesthetic. The simple two-way tote bag works for just about anybody in whichever situation they deem fit.

Design モデルのデザインについて
Waste pickers is designed to have the feeling of being reborn from waste. We aimed for a design that fully captures the randomness of the materials being disposed of. For that reason each design is unique and cannot realistically be assembled again. The gradation, stripes, and blocking are made from the uniqueness of seat belt material. Layered design looks urban yet avant-garde and we think this is something quite special.

Perhaps best for a causal outfit. But in the right hands it also suits up nicely for formal occasion thanks to the sharpness and elegance of seat belt material. Use as you wish.

Layers are made from overlapping seat belt on the glossy side. Tough and beautiful like you. Seat belt is both scratch and water resistant to a moderate degree. Discarded tire tube is used for part of the fastener and makes an accent.

Black tone. Nylon is used for interior. Two pockets inside are good for a smartphone and key case or other trinkets.

Seatbelt is a strong material designed to protect life in the event of an accident. It is disposed of if industrial tests fail to ensure a 2-ton weight stress test, even if only slightly. The durability is more than enough for a bag and uniqueness of the material, such as fold line and texture, are well reflected in its structure and design.

Spin seat belt one by one to make a part of bag. Whole process is exclusively handmade by craftsman. Takes more production time than usual so seat belt collection is hard to do mass production. Various colors and texture of seat belts are discarded together so all mixed up. Designer selects those seat belts on by one to match together.

The greatest amount of waste produced in the world is seat belt from the massive automobile industry. Seat belt must undergo strict tests to adhere to industry safety standards. When materials don’t pass they are discarded with no further use in the automotive market.
However, even those failed materials have great specification and quality. We rescue them and give new life to this highly useful object. Unbeknownst to many, seat belt has fantastic qualities that make it an ideal candidate for a beautifully up-cycled bag. Furthermore, it has unique strength (like a 2 ton weight capacity), water resistance, and other properties that are hard to come by with other off the shelf bags.
